How fees work
The answers to what nearly everyone asks before a first session.
Insurance we work with
Aster is in network with some plan types and out of network with others. Before your first session we tell you which applies to your plan. We do not bill Medicare or Medicaid, and we will gladly give you the names of colleagues who do.
Some PPO plans, in network
Other plans, out of network
If you pay yourself
If you pay without insurance, we give you the fee for each session in writing before you start; it depends on the clinician and the length of the session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open, so ask how to request one. You can pay by card, including HSA and FSA cards. We ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment.
Receipts for reimbursement
Each month we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It lists a diagnosis code your insurer can see, and your plan decides whether it pays anything. Ask your plan before you begin.
An estimate in advance
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one in writing before your first session. If your final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
Checking your benefits
On request we check your benefits before the first session and tell you what we find. For out-of-network benefits, call your plan and ask about out-of-network mental health services. Our front desk can help you with the words to use.
Would you like a written estimate?
Write to us and tell us how you plan to pay. We send the estimate before your first session.
