Couples therapy

Eighty minutes, so both of you can speak

For two people who want to talk with each other, with someone to keep the conversation fair.

Couples sessions are 80 minutes, in person in Seguin or by video. Your clinician sets a plain rule early: each of you gets time to speak and to be heard, in the language that fits. We see couples of any age, married or not, and couples in which each partner is more comfortable in a different language.

What to expect

What it is like, and what it is not

  • The method

Our couples work draws on emotionally focused therapy and plain communication practice. Your clinician explains the approach and why they suggest it.

  • What this is not

Couples therapy here is not a custody or immigration evaluation, and it does not produce a letter for court. Your clinician cannot take sides or decide for you whether to stay together.

  • How long, and how often

Eighty minutes. Your clinician sets the pace with the two of you. We do not promise a number of sessions.

  • Lucila Cavazos and Gerardo Longoria see couples in Spanish and in English.

  • Insurance, paying yourself and a written estimate in advance are explained on one page.

Questions

Three questions about this service

Does my partner have to come every time?

Couples sessions are for both of you. If one of you cannot come once, talk to your clinician about whether to meet or to reschedule.

Can one of us speak Spanish and the other English?

Yes. Your clinician can work in both languages in the same session, so each of you can speak the way that is easiest.

What if only one of us wants to come?

You can start alone in individual therapy. If your partner joins later, your clinician explains how that changes what stays private.
